ASU relocation to Whyalla
A J Mayr Engineering has signed an alliance agreement with BOC Gases to conduct the dismantling, refurbishment and relocation of an Air Separation Unit (ASU) from the BHP works in Newcastle to Whyalla.
The project is part of an agreement signed by BOC to supply Oxygen, Nitrogen and Argon to OneSteel steel works in Whyalla, South Australia.
A J Mayr had previously been involved in the construction of the ASU at the Newcastle BHP site. Since the site’s closure, the ASU had been sitting idle while a cost determination was made as to whether to relocate it or build a new unit in Whyalla. Major parts will under go refurbishment and major overhauls before shipping to Whyalla. The schedule for completion is set for November 2001.
A J Mayr is based at Tomago, near the port of Newcastle in the Hunter region of NSW, Australia.
Founded in 1971, the company specialises in the design, fabrication and installation of high-pressure and cryogenic storage vessels and tanks. It also fabricates and constructs high pressure piping and air separation plants, as well as structural steelwork for industries as diverse as gas and petrochemicals, mining, steel and aluminium processing and the cryogenics industry.
