AJ Mayr wins prestigious award

AJ Mayr Engineering has kicked yet another goal, this time winning the prestigious Welding Technology Institute of Australia (WTIA) Manufacturer of the Year award in the medium sized category.

And it was a double for Newcastle region at the awards ceremony, with Newcastle Industrial Plastics winning the small manufacturer category.

AJ Mayr has become the largest privately-owned fabrication company in Australia and last year successfully built two petro-chemical processing plants for Shell Australia.

The WTIA award was based largely on the intricate high pressure piping work AJ Mayr has carried out over the past 24 months during the Replacement Research Reactor Project at the Lucas Heights nuclear facility in Sydney.

Company Chairman Kumar Perumal paid tribute to team leader Kevin Wilson for his work on the Lucas Heights project and to the entire Tomago team.

"We are blessed by having outstanding staff in our company, and their commitment and professionalism is reflected in the products we produce," Mr Perumal said.

"The WTIA award is certainly a great honour and we are extremely humbled to receive it."

The winner of the large fabricator of the year award was the Ausclad Group of Companies based in Western Australia.
